What type of hose is used for dishwasher water line?

There is not a singular type of dishwasher in the market. It is a machine that helps clean all our dishes automatically, and the performance and features vary in almost all of them.

However, there is a standard size of ¾ connection for the water line for most of the dishwashers.

But then again there are so many dishwashers out there that use different functions and use different hose lines. We are going to go over them in brief below.

Both end threaded hose:

The hose that is used to supply water in the dishwasher traditionally contains a threaded end on both sides. This allows for the hose to be tightly screwed.

This is a necessity because the water supply will undoubtedly have pressurized water and if the hose is not secured correctly, it will not withstand the pressure. The body of the hose is usually a steel mesh for extra sturdiness.

Rubber or plastic hose:

There are other different types of hose for the dishwater water line that has the same features as the above hose but the only difference is that the outer body is either made of rubber or plastic.

These are not as sturdy as the steel mesh hose but they will get the job done. They are mostly used for draining dirty water after a wash.

Uncoupler end hose:

Finally, there are portable dishwashers that will use a combined type of hose that will perform both the supply as well as the draining functions.

These portable dishwashers will have the uncoupler on one end, this is required for them to function properly.

How to measure water line size for dishwasher?

If you are unclear as to what size of water line your dishwasher uses, follow our guide below to get access to the water line and measure it.

Gather required tools:

First we need to gather tools for the job at hand. Tools like the small channel lock, 6 in 1 screwdriver, small adjustable wrench, and finally a towel.

Shut the valve off:

We go under the sink and locate the hose where it’s connected to the water supply. We will shut the valve off and let no water pass through the pipe.

Lose the pipe:

In this step, we’ll take the adjustable wrench and loosen the pipe from the water supply.

Lay down the towel underneath whenever we loosen the water line so that water leakage doesn’t go everywhere, especially under the dishwasher.

Open bottom of the dishwasher:

Once we get that hose lose and take care of the water leak, we can go ahead to the bottom of the dishwasher and open it.

Here we’ll need to use the screwdriver and the preferred size for the dishwasher screws and pop open the panel.

Identify the channel lock:

We’ll find the dishwasher 90 where the water line will be connected. We’ll need the small channel lock and open the hose connection. Again, there will be water leakage so keep that in mind.

Measure the size:

Finally, we’ll have access to the water line for measuring. Now we can measure the size and the diameter of the water line for the dishwasher.

Final Thoughts

The standard size for the dishwasher water line can be different for different dishwashers. However, in most cases, the branded appliance companies opt to use a universal size for the water line. That particular size is a ¾” connection for the dishwasher water line.
